David had a rare gift for making people feel as though they were the most important person in the room.

David Allen Chapman, 71, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2026, in Syracuse, New York, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, cherished memories, and a love for his family that knew no bounds.

Born on May 11, 1955, David grew up in North Syracuse, New York, alongside his parents, Robert and Mickey Chapman, his brothers Donald and Kenny, and his sister Debbie. Some of his fondest childhood memories were made during summers spent in Erieville, New York, at his grandmother’s home. It was a place that would remain close to his heart and eventually become the backdrop for some of the most meaningful chapters of his life.

Years later, David and his beloved wife, Kelly, would raise their two children, Chelsea and David, along the shores of Erieville Lake before later making their home in Cazenovia. Life on the lake was filled with the simple joys that often become the most treasured memories: fishing, swimming, waterskiing, and long summer days spent together. David took great pride in teaching his children to appreciate the water, the outdoors, and, most importantly, the time they shared as a family.

David had a rare gift for making people feel as though they were the most important person in the room. A natural storyteller with a warm heart and an easy sense of humor, he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone and often walked away having made a new friend. He had a genuine curiosity about people, an ability to see the good in others, and a generosity of spirit that extended far beyond what he had to give. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a story, or simply taking the time to listen, David gave freely of himself.

“

David never missed an opportunity to tell someone how beautiful his wife was, how wonderful she was, or how incredibly lucky he felt to have her by his side.

A Master Mason, David valued fellowship, friendship, and service to others. He also volunteered his time bringing a little Christmas magic to his community, playing Santa Claus for the local Rotary Club in Sherburne, New York. It was a role that suited him beautifully, combining his love of people, his natural warmth, and his ability to bring a smile to someone’s face. Outside of his community involvement, David enjoyed martial arts, fishing, and the simple pleasure of spending time with family and friends.

Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He believed that being there for the people you loved mattered more than anything else, and throughout his life, he did everything within his power to be present, supportive, and encouraging. His family was his greatest source of pride, and his love for them was unwavering.

Perhaps the most beautiful story David ever told was the one he lived with his wife, Kelly. Their love was the kind that people hope to find in a lifetime: enduring, genuine, and filled with admiration. David never missed an opportunity to tell someone how beautiful his wife was, how wonderful she was, or how incredibly lucky he felt to have her by his side. To David, Kelly was simply the best person in the world, and he made certain everyone knew it.

Even in his final days, David’s warmth and personality continued to shine. He found ways to make friends with the medical professionals caring for him, sharing stories, bringing laughter, and occasionally a few tears. And true to the man he had always been, he continued telling anyone who would listen just how much he loved his wife. It was a beautiful reminder that even as life changes, the love we carry for others remains.

David is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Chapman; his daughter, Chelsea (Chapman) Liddell, and her husband, Daniel Liddell; his son, David Chapman II; his brothers, Donald Chapman and Kenneth Chapman; and his three beloved grandchildren, Ronan, Lorelei, and Sullivan Liddell.

David’s legacy will not be measured by possessions or accomplishments, but by the countless lives he touched, the friendships he made, the stories he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He leaves behind a family who will forever carry his laughter, his lessons, and his unwavering belief in the goodness of others.

A Celebration of Life will be held in May 2027, in honor of what would have been David’s 72nd birthday. Additional details will be shared with family and friends.

And while his storytelling may have come to an end, the stories themselves and the love behind them will continue to be told for generations to come.
