Detwiler

Southern Missionary Baptist Church
Starts at 1:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Robert Detwiler AKA Double D,Dr Dave, Dollar Dave, who left this world on June 5th at the age of 48. David was a beloved common-law husband, son, brother, uncle and friend whose presence touched many lives. He was known for his kind heart, sense of humor, generosity, loyalty, and the love he shared for those around him.
Born on November 16,1977 in Syracuse, NY. David spent his life pursuing his interests. David was an avid Yankees Fan and played baseball for the Valley Men's Club as a youth. David was very proud to have pitched a no-hitter in the early 90's. David enjoyed fishing especially at Butternut Creek where he always went with his Dad. David also was a movie lover, especially Superman with Christopher Reeve. David loved to spend time at Websters Pond. He brought joy to family gatherings and created memories that will be cherished forever.
Like many people David faced challenges in life, including a long struggle with addiction. Though addiction was part of his journey it did not define who he was. Those who knew him remember his strength, his humanity, his capacity for love and the moments of hope and connection he shared with others.
He is survived by his fiance' of 27 years Jennifer Balenski, sisters April (Robert) Bross and Shelley (Jamison) Tomushunas. Three nieces Alyssa, Haley and Erin. A nephew James, and his beloved dog Rex (Bubba).Several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Lee (Ames) Detwiler.
Our family asks that David be remembered not for the struggles he faced, but the person he was, a beloved fiance to Jennifer, brother, uncle and friend whose life mattered deeply.
A memorial service will be held on Sat. June 13th at 1pm at Southern Missionary Baptist Church located at 3143 Midland Ave, Syracuse, NY where he recently became a member. A repast will be held immediately following at the church.
May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
