Suzie's smile and laughter was infectious.
It is with great sadness that we share the news that Suzanne Marie Brashaw passed away on June 26th at Saint Joseph's Health Hospital in Syracuse NY. She was born in Ogdensburg, NY on August 13th, 1953, which started her love for the number 13.
Suzie's smile and laughter was infectious. Always late to the party but the last to leave. She lived an adventure-filled life. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1971 And was the President of her Class. She and her classmates ever remained close and gather regularly. She graduated from SUNY Canton in 1973 with a Liberal Art's Social Science Degree, but she always joked she majored in Hoot Owl. While there she was active in the Alpha Chai Omicron Sorority. She retired in 2008 from the Ogdensburg Psychiatric Center as the Audiovisual Coordinator for the Education and Training Department. She then obtained her Real Estate Salesperson's License and joined the family firm Blue Heron Realty. She was very proud that she was a Realtor. She was a member of the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge and served as the Esquire. She was a member IATSE Local 749 for many years working various stage and musical events in northern NY. She loved Broadway Shows and music especially Barbra Streisand and Janet Jackson. An avid and gifted athlete she played softball and was the President of the Ogdensburg Women's Softball Association. She played in many co-ed tournaments and was a crackerjack second baseman and could hit the ball out of the park. As an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, she celebrated her birthday last year at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati watching her Reds play the Phillies a family rivalry. While she enjoyed many sports including volleyball and bowling, she loved golf. She was a member of the Thursday Night Ladies League and Ogdensburg Ladies Golf Association where she played in many Northern New York Tournaments and was the Rep for a number of years. Sue loved golf and would play in as many tournaments as she could and almost always got the longest drive competition and also could sink that long putt. Combining her love of animals and her love of golf she co-founded the SNOLF Tournament supporting the SPCA. She rescued so many cats over the years and leaves behind 4 fur babies- Cincinnati, Sammy, Daisy and Georgie.
She leaves behind her wife, Jennifer Stevenson, brother Michael (Maureen) Brashaw, Brother-in-Law John (Julia) Stevenson, Sister-in-Law Jill Roberts. A special niece Murphy Brashaw and special nephew Timothy Stevenson, Nieces and Nephew Michele Brashaw, James Brashaw, Karen Bidwell, Sean Brashaw, Michael Brashaw, Kelsey Brand, Christin Mallette, Natalee Bean, Dustina Hooper, Stella Stevenson and Amelia Stevenson and many great nieces and nephews and close cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Carol Brashaw, Brothers Robert and Lawrence.
Donations in her memory may be made to Summit Wildlife Trap Neuter Release Program and the St Lawrence Valley SPCA because of her love of animals.
She lived an adventure-filled life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday July 12th from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Fort de La Presentation Land in Ogdensburg.
