She attributed her long life to always having a positive outlook on life as well as family.

Yolanda (Sillato) DeLorm, 109, of Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully at Central Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Syracuse, NY on Friday, June 26th. She was born June 6, 1917 in Rochester, NY to the late Sebastiano and Josephine (Neri) Sillato, the second youngest of seven children. Attended Rochester Central School District schools, graduating from East High School in 1935. Her first full-time job was with Lawyers’ Cooperative Publishing Company. Her older brother, Al, was a professional photographer. Whenever he purchased a new camera, she would be his model. She learned to make her own clothes from her Aunt Francis, who was a professional seamstress. She met her husband, Kenneth, on a blind date. Ken enlisted in the army during WWII and was stationed in England attached to the Army Air Corp as a mechanic, assembling bomber engines. They married in August 1945. She was a stay-at-home mom, raising their three sons until the youngest entered kindergarten. She was employed as the Administrative Assistant to the principal at Pardee Elementary School for 23 years. She was the first contact for parents and children entering the district. Working with all of the staff, children and parents was the best part of her job. They were active members of the PTA and their church, Asbury First United Methodist Church.

Yolanda had a passion for family. Ken and Yolanda both came from big families so there were always family get-togethers going on. All three sons learned how to cook, clean and do laundry. Her hobbies included gardening, bowling, and golf. Actually, she started playing golf in the seventh grade and stopped playing in her late 90’s. Fond memories were always made at the annual two-week family camping vacations.

During retirement, Ken and Yolanda spent their winters in Florida, playing a lot of golf. Yolanda was an accomplished artist, having worked with both oils and water-colors. She and many of her girl friends formed a group called the Wacky Pack. Besides socializing, the group went on guided tours of sites in and around Rochester.

She attributed her long life to always having a positive outlook on life as well as family. She was a strong, independent woman who was a feminist well before it was popular. Her marriage was a 50-50 marriage, unconventional at the time.

Her beloved husband, Ken, passed away in 2012.

She is predeceased by her siblings, Carl Sillato, Tani Heuer, Joseph Sillato, Samuel Sillato, Albert Sillato and Inez Sillato.

She is survived by her children K. Michael (Linda) DeLorm, David A. (Paula) DeLorm, and Steven P. (Joanne) DeLorm; grandchildren Christina (Brian) Haemmerle, Jonathan (Amanda) DeLorm, Jessica (Michael) Beether, Jaclyn DeLorm, Jeremy (Christy) DeLorm, Katie (Keegan) Krohn, Christopher (Cindy) DeLorm, and great-grandchildren Ken and Trevor Haemmerle, Abigail DeLorm, Emma and Jak Krohn, and Cooper, Chase, and Colby DeLorm as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Central Park and especially Lennicquia, Davida and Grace for providing such great care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY 14534 at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607.
